control paragraph spacing?

i'm getting some text boxes in my files that add what looks like a double line break between paragraphs. it's not happening on all text boxes. i can't seem to find a way to control the spacing between paragraphs. what am i missing?

Try showing the rulers (View->Show Rulers or Command-R) while editing the text: you can adjust the line and paragraph spacing there.
