Text to shape conversion

Does anyone know of a way to convert a text object into a shape object (i.e. like convert text to outline feature in Illustrator)? I have Illustrator so I can do it there, but I'm just wondering if I can do this directly in OG. If not, I would find this feature useful in the future (i.e. I like to use special characters as shapes).

I would like to do the same thing. Nobody answered Mark back on '06 (I'm guessing because the answer was "no"), perhaps there is a solution today...?

I'm also very interested in this feature. Sometimes I want to scale and skew text characters like any other shape.
