Hi,

first post here. I've been playing with OW's resource files in order to change the appearance of the browser (I do like it a lot, but the icons IMHO look really old). Jon Hicks' work (http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/omniweb) gave me the idea. ;) I've came to a decent result, using the Pinstripe icon set (http://pimpmycamino.com/parts/pinstripe) originally made available for Camino.

http://antipanti.xmgimage.com/client_images/55/screenshot_04.jpg

But there are two things that would bring me to visual nirvana:

- the text in the bookmark bar 1 px bigger

- the icons in the same place a bit smaller

Even if I change the aqua/graphite folder icon (16x16) with a smaller one, it get resized back to 16 px. So I guess it's a value set somewhere in the code of the app, a .plist file or something like that, I don't know. :p
So my question is: is there a way to change the size of both text and icons in the bookmark bar? Nope, mmh? :)
And, I don't know this conflicts with the software's license, if it does and the post gets deleted it's ok, and I beg your forgiveness!

Thank you very much.

Unfortunately you can't change the font at this time but a great idea for the future (Allowing one to customize icons and appearance in OmniWeb is something we'd very much like to do.)

Mmh, as I imagined ;) Thank you for replying. It's nice to see how you listen to users and it's nice to see the amount of great ideas circulating around here! It's added value to your great products.

@Gustomela--

Could you do a request on a set of interface icons? I have the png of the icons, but I'm knee deep in developing some firefox themes, so I haven't had the time to learn my way around omniweb's internals.

This is a really good look for OmniWeb. Could you make these available for the rest of us?

If you supply a smaller icon - 14x14 or 10x10 say, it will get resized, so what you need to do is put your smaller icon on a 16x16 background. does that make sense?

Hi Jon! I'm your fan since... ever! ;)

Oh I just took Kevin Gerich (http://kmgerich.com/)'s Pinstripe icons from your Pimp My Camino (here (http://pimpmycamino.com/parts/pinstripe)) and put them into OW's resources folder! :)

It does and that's exactly what I did. I took the arrow icon (13x15) and pasted it on a transparent 16x16 png. But being as picky as I am I just don't like the space around the small arrow. This makes the arrow itself too far from the text of the bookmark's name.
Just my finical obsession methinks... :)

As I said the icons are from a Camino theme and have been designed by Kevin Gerich. They're not mine! :)
So you can just download them and put in OW resource folder, changing the names to match the original ones :)

Or, if you can wait till tomorrow, I'll upload my own resource folder (plus the bookmark icon with instructions on where to put it), so that you don't have to manually change every icon's name :)

Why not just align the icon to the far right of the 16x16 square? It means that there will be more space inbetween each item (maybe no bad thing), but then it would sit right next the text.

I'll wait. And thanks for doing this. I really think OmniWeb is the best browser for me but the GUI is a little blah. I like eye candy.

Ok, done. Still too much blank space to my taste, but it looks a bit better, thanks :)

For you and anyone who'd like to apply the Pinstripe icon set to their copy of OmniWeb:

INSTRUCTIONS

You need this zip file (8,7 mb)
http://www.box.net/shared/lnacceh63o

This is my own Resources folder with the icons from the Pinstripe theme renamed to match the name of the default OmniWeb's icons. Plus two single icons for the bookmarks.
Now, Pinstripe itself does not contain all the icons OmniWeb needs. The missing icons in this package have been replaced with Jon Hick's icons (http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/omniweb), the two sets are quite similar and can be mixed very well. I actually put Pinstripe over Jon's theme (I've always used it for OmniWeb)! I hope you don't mind Jon, but if it bores you I'll remove the file and delete this post.

Now, to make OW use these icons you need to open your own Resources folder: go to your Applications folder, locate OmniWeb, ctrl-clik its icon and choose Show Package Contents. Once there, open the Contents folder. Now you can see the Resources folder. Back up it somewhere, then delete it and replace it with the Resource folder you have previously downloaded.

You're almost done.

Now you only need to change the bookmark icon that appears in the bookmark bar. To do so, go back to the Contents when you found the Resources. Look for Frameworks and open it. Now look for OmniHTML.framework, open it and go to Resources (the folder with the alias arrow). Put here the two icons you find in the zip file you've downloaded.

Done!

Quit (if open) and restart OmniWeb.

One note: this package also contains a modified OmniWeb icon (OmniWebIcon.png and OmniWeb.icns), taken from David Lanham's Amora set. If you don't like them - which I think is very probable - you can always replace them with the original ones that you have in your original Resource folder that I've suggested you to back up ;) But I think they match perfectly with Jon's splashscreen ;)

Now go überbrowsing! ;)

Anyone know where the printer icon resides? I can't seem to find it inside the app package except within the help files (which is no help! :D)

Here's a screenie with the muku buttons and the muku shapeshifter theme. I'm still trying to learn themepark well enough to add the omniweb profile to the muku theme without losing the skins for unified windows (which is just weird).

Candybar (Panic) users, you can launch Candybar and click "App Extras" tab to change the buttons. You will also have a backup of original icons I assume.

Here is a screenshot
