Level styles for only part of a document?

Is there any way to set a level style for only part of a document?

For instance, could I select a section of an outline and set a certain font, size and color for Level Three rows and have those styles affect only the level three rows in the selected part of the outline, and not affect the level three rows in the other sections of the outline?

i believe this can be done using named styles rather than level styles

Yes, but named styles would have to be applied annually line by line. I'm looking for a solution that "sticks" for a portion of the outline.
