Have you guys ever heard of Crispy News? It is basically a feature request/voting system for customers. It has been a HUGE success for SalesForce.com and Dell.

I could really see this helping you guys in product direction, feature request priority, etc.

Product:

SalesForce.com implementation:

Dell Idea Storm

Something you might want to look at.

We do something like this behind the scenes - our bug database has a notion of 'votes'. When a ninja adds customer feedback to an item in our database, the vote count goes up.

The only objection that I'd have to adopting this specific service would be that we have a lot of internal reports that all key off of our existing database. I wouldn't want to give those up, or figure out how to roll our existing data into a tool run by a third party.

Our current database relies on a technology that Apple hasn't been devoting much attention to lately; if it ever stops working for good, we'll need to switch to something else. I'll file this idea as a tickler for when that happens. (Or when we end up with enough spare developer time to tackle this before that happens.)

Another potential tool: http://launchpad.net

I appreciate that the support ninjas are willing to sort through all those emails and tag all the requests and bugs the come in. Sometimes I feel a little guilty submitting small feature requests, and would probably do it much more often if I were able to look through existing items before submitting.
