View Full Version : "tomorrow morning"?

in kGtd i often used to type "tomorrow" into the start field to postpone something till the next day - it would show up the very next morning. Just realised, however, that in OmniFocus at the moment, "tomorrow" gives you 24 hours from the current time. This has tripped me up a bit, because items i postponed in the afternoon do not turn up until the next afternoon. But i need them in the morning.
How do others feel about how "tomorrow" or "next week" etc should be parsed? And is there any other way that i could quickly set a date for "tomorrow morning"?

"tomorrow 7a" works.

Craig,
Nice tip. It will be better when there is a column for due date. Using real language is a great help. I am thinking of setting up textexpander to make it even easier to add dates. For example, I can set up nnw to expand to next week or ttm to expand to tomorrow.

I noticed even without textexpander "tom 7a" works.
EDIT: never mind, it actually doesn't.

Wow! That is even better. These Omni folks are sharp!

i still think a date should be midnight default unless a time i specified

Whoops, I take that back, looks like "tom 7a" returns today at 7:00am. I'm guessing it ignores "tom" as something it doesn't understand.
While I'm here, for the record I agree that midnight as a default makes more sense...

I also vote for "tomorrow", "next week", etc. to default to midnight.
and "+24h" could be the specific alternate that would put you into tomorrow at this same time.

outlines some of the stuff you can do with dates.
I'd suggest typing "1d" for tomorrow, that's even shorter :)

cool..."1d" is good
1d @ 1a gets me my deferred till tomorrow morning i've discovered

Ok, that's a good fix for the time being... but I still think that "tomorrow" should defer things to midnight or so the next day. I often process tasks in the afternoon or evening, and defer things for the next day... or for Sunday.. I really don't want to be clueless about those tasks until the next day at 6 PM or Sunday at 9 PM. Beginning of the day should be default, and then I can put in specific hours if I want to.

I agree smew. That is the more intuitive meaning of "tomorrow"
I've actually created a Text Expander snippet - ttt - that expands to "tomorrow @ 1am" to be able to truly and easily "tomorrow" things :D. But I do hope this will not be the solution I'll have to stick with.

also noticed that if the current time is 2pm, and I type in, say "june 30", i get 30/06/2007 2:00 PM
so it looks like everything gets the current date added on

In the latest alpha, the time now defaults to midnight if you don't specifiy the time.

Although I'm not yet blessed with an alpha, I anticipate "tomorrow" being a problem for those of us who are night owls. More often than not, I'm still at my Mac 'til at least 1:00 AM. So my "tomorrow" is based on when I sleep and awake.
Wish: Let each user customize the meaning of "tomorrow" (or default time-of-day) in OmniFocus Preferences.

Same here and this has been a problem for me with other software I've used.

I would like to specify the 'normal' start time of my the day for the same reason as the two previous posters, I'm often finishing up my day after midnight.
I guess you can always say "today" in that case.

another thing, have you noticed that when you set a start or due date using the pop up calendar it defaults to 12pm, rather than 12am?
