View Full Version : Pages often blank until I highlight with Mouse

OmniWeb-5.6-v613

Several web sites I use come up blank, or mostly blank, until I click the mouse and wipe the cursor over the page, as if were highlighting a section of text. My online banking site is practically unusable as things are.

I am using Leopard. I did an erase and install, so I am using none of my previous OmniWeb settings.

Is anyone else seeing this behaviour?

Cheers.

I'm experiencing the same thing intermittently.

I'm experiencing this, too.

It seems to be a Leopard issue with Omniweb 5.6.

Look at this site where i can reproduce this bahaviour constantly:
http://www.maniac-forum.de/forum/pxmboard.php?mode=board&brdid=1

just navigate the threads ... after a few threads you can be sure to see the issue in the bottom frame
(-> looks like no content at all, but after clicking and dragging the mouse the content appears)

some observations:
- i think its not an issue with frames. i saw this on other sites as well ... this is just an example
- NO PROBLEMS with omniweb 5.6 on tiger
- NO PROBLEMS with safari 3 on leopard

please fix this :-)

thanks,
Lur

Same blank page problem here when I want to reach the page of my router.

The problem is still there in the latest 5.7 Sneaky Peak. Any comments from Omnigroup?

I've seen this intermittently as well. It does not occur consistently, even when repeatedly reloading the same page.

Just a note, it is a little easier to "fix" the page by clicking anywhere in the page then pressing Command-A to select all.

I have the same problem. For me it seems related to frames and/or anchors. On pages like this (http://www.ruby-doc.org/stdlib/) (try to click arround on the links in the frames) OmniWeb is nearly unusable.

Another, possibly-related issue I've been seeing is that OmniWeb does not reliably render the background color or image of some websites. Again, the problem is intermittent.

The problem does not occur in Safari or WebKit, so it's not Apple's renderer. It's something broken in OmniWeb itself.

I have an example site where you should be able to reproduce the problem, but unfortunately it is currently unavailable due to some sudden and unexpected DNS changes made today by the hosting company.

So I'll come back to this issue in a day or two after this problem has been resolved.

Thanks for that trick.

I emailed OG using the feedback link in OW since I'm having this exact same problem. Its definitely a problem on sites using frames or iframes. They responded within the hour and were aware of the problem. No indication of when a fix would be coming, but at least they acknowledged there is a problem to be fixed.

Is this the same problem as a page displaying only a sickly sort of green background, then having to click on that page/frame to get it to load the real content?

I've been puzzled by that one, but had assumed it was over-enthusiasm from the ad-blocker. :S

Are you blocking Flash content because that is probably a site that is built wholly with a Flash back end.

I don't understand "clocking", except when it means "measuring the speed". Is that what you mean?

I'm not doing anything specific about Flash: I do have Ad Blocking set to block content "from third-party sites", so I wondered if that might be the cause of those sickly-green pages...

Just a typo - it should have said blocking, not clocking. Try disabling the ad blocking when you come across a page like that to see if it solves the problem.

As of 95443, I am having this problem, too. It happens with my plesk 7 control panel, and phpymyadmin2.6, both provided from one of my hosting companies.

I have Megazoomer installed. Switching between full page view and normal view (after loading each page!) forces to OW to redraw the page, and to display the contents.

I hope the bug is fixed soon.

I have this problem on the Nationstates.net site, and everytime I try to check my website stats, the graphs don't load. I fire up Safari for these times...

Do you think it would be possible to have a quick 5.6.1 update correcting this bug because my omniweb is now useless with so many site using frames... I have to go back to Safari or Firefox just to check my mail...

We believe this bug is fixed in the 5.7 sneaky peek builds.

Well, that's nice but it seems that the 5.7 sneaky peek has other issues (normal for a beta version). I don't want to use a browser that cannot display 25% of the websites I'm visiting (5.6) or has issues that prevent its everyday use.
I guess I'll just have to stick with Safari until the 5.7 release...

I'm afraid it isn't as my router settings page is a reproducible test case for this issue and it is still suffering from the missing content problem (I've just checked to make sure I have the latest sneaky peek and I do - v. 97255 - so it is not because I am behind the curve).

Not sure if it's related or not, but tabs are still often showing up as blank until I click on them.

Nope, that's a different issue. I've been working on tracking it down; the recent thumbnail rendering optimization was a side effect of rewriting a bunch of that code to try to fix the blank tabs.

Unfortunately, the thumbnail problem seems to be deeper in WebCore's rendering: we ask it to draw the page, and it just draws an empty white page. Still digging…

Thanks for letting me know. Anything specific I can do to help you guys track it down?
