Hi,

I made some perspective icons for my saved perspectives and want to share them.

These are great!

There are some improvements to Perspectives that should hit the stream early next week that will make using custom icons much easier to play with.

Very cute. I particularly like the black-and-white-ness of them and shall give them a whirl.

How do you install them please?

great icons. i've implemented them and they've already helped.

@coolie21
to install, create a new perspective, then open the perspective inspector ("show perspectives"), then click on and rename (if you want to) that perspective. if it isn't open, click the small triangle icon at the bottom to open the perspective properties sheet (between the snapshop camera and printer icons), and either drag'n'drop your icon of choice, or choose via the finder.

@halbtuerke
here's the million dollar question: could you share the criteria for each of your perspectives? this might warrant another thread, but i'm wondering what criteria people out there are using for these perspectives?

Of course, there they are:

What's that A in the middle of your lists?

Honestly, I have no idea. :o

hmm.... I bet that's an old perspective that has a bad bit set on it that is making the table view display that "A" is its keyboard shortcut.

If any *new* users see this let me know, if any users who have had long lived perspectives from the myriad changes we made in the beta, remaking the perspective should fix the problem.

I see, well it works perfectly so it doesn't matter to me.

Hi folks,

I've also created a batch of fourteen icons for my Perspectives that were originally inspired by halbtuerke's. Then they sort of took on a life of their own.

http://www.blockstreetandbuilding.com/blog/wp-content/themes/mimbo2.2/downloads/promotionals/icons/of_menubar.png

I have them available for download here. (http://www.blockstreetandbuilding.com/blog/cgi-bin/of_icons/icons.cgi) This link is a "refer-a-friend" form but you are more than welcome to download the icons without sharing my site with friends. There is an opt out link at the bottom. Click it and the icons will automatically download.

Naturally, you can refer a couple of friends, too.;)

Enjoy and thanks for the great application!

BTW, thanks halbtuerke for the great Perspective configurations. I implemented them after you posted and ended up replacing the few that I had already!

Nice icons you have there, a little bit to shiny for my taste but nonetheless nice. :)

Thanks, halbtuerke. I have a definite fondness for how you handled yours. Have you made others for other apps?

BTW, To anybody who wants to download the icons. I changed up the form a little and moved the location. It is here now. (http://www.blockstreetandbuilding.com/blog/cgi-bin/of_icons/icons.cgi) Have fun with them.

Thanks for the insights to your workflow halbtuerke. However, I have some questions to your perspectives (because my setup is similar to yours, but I don't understand how you work with some of your perspectives):

a) Why do you have an "Active" perspective and a "Morning Review" perspective. I understand that the sorting is different and it could be a little better to view projects by the due criteria but for me there aren't enough benefits to have two perspectives for almost the same view. Is there this one "big killer reason" why you splitted this view into another perspective and which I just don't know?

b) "Lists" are only your "On hold" projects. Why is this the "Lists" perspective and not the "On hold" one? My speculation was that you abuse the "On hold" status for projects to enter everything into OmniFocus while keeping the mess from your active projects away, but it's only a guess. An explanation would be really great.

c) How do you use the "Daily Focus" perspective? I have a similar one but the right name for this perspective in my setup would be "Daily mess". There are tons of next actions I can do and I just feel overwhelmed by all the stuff I have to do. For the "Do" step I almost only use an overdue and a flagged perspective (in this order). I've practically never used this perspective in my setup (although a lot of people say this perspective should be in your default setup).

d) I guess "Achievements" is your perspective with all your finished projects to strengthen your ego? (I'm asking because I see no screenshot or description for this perspective).

It would be really nice if you could answer some of my questions. Thanks in advance!

I think it's just my personal preference. When I wake up I just want to see what's due today or tomorrow and jot down a little today-list which contains tasks I should get done today. Active on the other side are all of my tasks without any grouping or sorting so I can get a glimpse of all my unfinished projects and tasks.
b) "Lists" are only your "On hold" projects. Why is this the "Lists" perspective and not the "On hold" one? My speculation was that you abuse the "On hold" status for projects to enter everything into OmniFocus while keeping the mess from your active projects away, but it's only a guess. I really like to have lists for various things e.g. Books I want to read, Movies I want to watch etc. I totally abused the "On hold" status and just use it for my lists so that they don't clutter up my tasks.
c) How do you use the "Daily Focus" perspective? I have a similar one but the right name for this perspective in my setup would be "Daily mess". There are tons of next actions I can do and I just feel overwhelmed by all the stuff I have to do. For the "Do" step I almost only use an overdue and a flagged perspective (in this order). I don't mind the "Daily mess" because there's always the option to focus on just the contexts you are working on and if you have a lot of sequential projects this perspective is excellent because you only get the next actions for all your projects.
d) I guess "Achievements" is your perspective with all your finished projects to strengthen your ego? (I'm asking because I see no screenshot or description for this perspective).
Sorry, the screenshot was somehow offline but now it's back online. You're right, Achievements are just for my ego so I can look at what I've done so far.

Best regards
