Since upgrading today to sp14 it no longer blocks flash sp13 didn't block any flash ads either. Though it did work perfect in sp12. I have tossed all the preferences and app support folders but even with a clean install flash is no longer blocked. I used the adobe site at http://www.adobe.com to test it.

edit: actually after looking in the console every time I try to filter an image this spits out "/Applications/OmniWeb.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniWeb: CGImageSourceUpdateData image source was already finalized\n" and unlike in sp12 where the image went away instantly I have to reload the page before its gone.

I don't know; all the flash ads I've been blocking all along are still blocked in SP14.

And FWIW, I've ALWAYS had to reload a page for a blocked image to vanish.

What was the expression to use in the ad blocking panel to enable this? I have tried *.swf by itself and with other modifiers, but it has not worked for me since the 5.5 sp series was launched?

How do you do it? I really would like to re-implement flash blocking.

Thanks.

Use:

/.*\.swf

Nope. Flash animation is still loaded normally. Do I have to manually change some prefs in the pref file?

Thanks.

In one of the other threads, IIRC someone from OmniGroup said that if you have an incorrectly parsed regex expression in your list, all expressions that follow that one will fail. Maybe that is the cause of your problem?

I've had that problem with the bad regex before--it can be laborious to find the one bad character. Now I'm also experiencing the problem with Flash content not being blocked and I've not made any recent changes to the block list. They're not there in sp14 and are in sp15.

I guess it is a bug - I've just noticed it happening for me too and I haven't added any strings to my ad blocking for a while either.

Very little code changed between sp14 and sp15, can you give an example of a site where flash blocking worked in sp14 (or earlier) and doesn't in sp15.

We did change how this works in sp13 (I believe) and it is certainly possible that it no longer works the same as before--but concrete examples would go a long way to helping us fix the problem.

http://www.foodnetwork.com
http://www.nytimes.com
(all sites that I've noticed).
All that stuff at the top used to just not show up. I find I'm getting the spinning beachball often now as sites gear up to show the flash content.

This is odd. On foodnetwork.com, if I use the block expression:

http://ai\.foodnetwork\.com/webfood/images/header/fn_header\.swf

The header SWF file is NOT blocked -- but the square Flash ad is!

If I try to make it more general:

http://ai\.foodnetwork\.com/webfood/images/.*\.swf

Then nothing is blocked.

In FF, if I use the AdBlock string:

http://ai.foodnetwork.com/webfood/images/header/fn_header.swf

the top banner is GONE.

In Safari, with SafariBlock, I can use

http://ai.foodnetwork.com/*.swf to whack them all.

I went straight from SP12 to SP15, and flash stopped being blocked on http://insidemacgames.com/forum/.

It looks like there is a problem with blocking flash / plug-in content right now. We've already fixed it for the next release though so hopefully this will be working better for you soon!

Ahh, sweet. Glad it's been fixed. I've been getting a bit annoyed. ;)

Flash blocking now works, but I can no longer tell OW to load the flash animation. Am I missing something, or is this feature still in the process of being implemented? I remember being able to tell OW 5.1 to load a flash file by simply clicking on it.

You can't click to load blocked plug-in content. This is a known issue.
