OW 5.8 impressions

Hello everyone,

I took a stab at the first 5.8 SP that was released, but I found it too quirky for every day use. It would be nice to hear from those who have jumped in with 5.8 whether the effort has been worthwhile so for, and whether 5.8 foreshadows a very interesting 6.0 release.

Is OW headed in the right direction?

Could you explain what you mean by "quirky"? For me, aside from a few pages that render more accurately in 5.8 because of the updated WebKit, it's not very different than 5.7.

My guess is that most of the changes I'd like to see — for instance (I'm hoping here) inline find a la Safari and Firefox — aren't likely to show up until the version 6 betas. I don't think we'll get much of a sense of the future of OmniWeb until then.

He means it doesn't have a toilet-bowl-after-eating-your-mama's-chili theme and it doesn't support mouse-gestures-used-by-feet because the 15 year olds have their hands busy with porn sites.

I'd love to know what's troubling you. This is why we're doing a sneakypeek instead of a beta to find out what is preventing you from using it as you did 5.7.

Keychain issues are the top thing. Ad blocking, especially with flash content, is inconsistent, and I am told that SIMBL caused the last few crashes that I had, but I don't have conflicts between Safari+Safaristand and SIMBL.

Also, Safari is (was) much faster with script heavy pages.

But, this series of answers was what I was looking for. I'll take a stab at the SP released today.

As my sig indicates, my computer is somewhat dated, but that shouldn't be the issue, should it?

Lastly, yes, the form fill feature of Safari is just, oh, so nice.

Ah, yes, you read my mind.

I just noticed that I have submitted 397 posts to OG forums. So, complaints notwithstanding, I obviously like your products. :)
