Autoupdate crashes OW, again

For a brief time, autoupdate was working for me because I started using my normal account as administrator. But, today, even with admin privileges, OW became completely unresponsive as soon as soon as I launched autoupdate.

I'm finding this feature to be incredibly frustrating. It had crashed OW almost 90% of the time form.

Sorry, this appears to be caused by a Leopard bug that only happens on PowerPC hardware. (As far as I can tell it never happens on Tiger or on Intel hardware.) Basically, what happens is that we create a child process and wait for it to exit, but somehow the exit notification gets lost and we end up waiting forever.

We're trying to come up with an alternate approach that works around this bug. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime!

Thanks for the update - just in case it helps, I have the same problem in both OW and OF on an Intel Mac Pro running Leopard...

Thanks for the note. FWIW, I'm quite happy with manual update. :)

If anyone is still seeing a hang or stall when checking for updates in SPs later than 97763, please send feedback using the OmniWeb Help menu.

Will do. I crashed updating today but it was from the version prior to 97763. Really excited to see that going away.
