OmniOutliner 3 had a great run

OmniOutliner 3 has had a great run, shipping 9 years ago this month—the same month Apple announced iWork. One year before Intel-based Macs.

Here is a quick survey of its milestones over those 9 years:
OmniOutliner 3.0 (Jan 4, 2005) added batch find, folded editing, inline notes, a sections drawer, file attachments, styles, and clippings.

OmniOutliner 3.0.2 added support for Spotlight on April 29, 2005—the day Spotlight shipped in Mac OS X v10.4 (“Tiger”).

OmniOutliner 3.5 (Dec 1, 2005) added LinkBack support, allowing you to embed editable content from other applications (like OmniGraffle). It also made a number of AppleScript improvements, making it a better host for the popular Kinkless GTD script. But the most important thing about OmniOutliner 3.5 was that it added support for Intel Macs, which were first unveiled on January 10, 2006.

OmniOutliner 3.6 (Apr 19, 2006) boosted performance and added more AppleScript features, built-in templates, and a compression setting.

OmniOutliner 3.6.3 (Nov 7, 2007) added support for the new Mac OS X v10.5 (“Leopard”).

OmniOutliner 3.7 (Sep 2, 2008) added support for QuickLook and for linking to omnifocus: URLs. It was the first version to be code-signed.

OmniOutliner 3.8 (Feb 24, 2009) added support for using QuickLook on embedded attachments, and for importing Keynote ’09 documents.

OmniOutliner 3.9 (Aug 19, 2009) added automatic updates, saved unsaved documents even when the system crashed, and exported to Word 2007. It also added support for the new Mac OS X v10.6 (“Snow Leopard”), which shipped later that month.

(In January, 2011, we also shipped a separate edition of OmniOutliner for the launch of the Mac App Store. But at that point our primary focus was on OmniOutliner for iPad, which shipped on May 12, 2011 and sold 10,000 copies in the first three weeks. But then back to the Mac for v3.10…)

OmniOutliner 3.10 (July 20, 2011) was ready the day Mac OS X v10.7 (“Lion”) shipped, adding Auto Save, Versions, full screen, and resume.

OmniOutliner 3.10.5 (Aug 6, 2012) added support for Mac OS X v10.8 (“Mountain Lion”).

On May 22, 2013, we added automatic document syncing to OmniOutliner 3 by shipping OmniPresence.
… which brings us to today, when OmniOutliner 3 was officially retired. Hello, OmniOutliner 4!
