Complete By Date - Restore Default Perspectives

I have had some problems with my Perspectives deleting after syncing.

I seem to recall that the iPad version of OmniFocus came with a default perspective Completed by Date.

It is now missing, and of course that perspective can't be built on the Mac.

How can I get it back?

Me too

Yes - I've emailed support about it. I setup about 6 new context based perspectives on my iMac, synced them, certainly to my iPad but not sure about my Touch. Later on - bang! - all of them had gone from all three versions!

Sounds like we should get OmniFocus 1.8 out of "sneaky peek" status as soon as possible! You're running into a series of perspective-syncing bugs which we've fixed in OmniFocus 1.8 for Mac (currently available as a "sneaky peek" release). OmniFocus 1.7 has a bug where it sometimes loses track of which perspectives you have, and then it tries to synchronize its notion of your perspectives back out to the other systems which deletes all those missing perspectives.

OmniFocus 1.8 for Mac fixes those synchronization bugs, and also knows how to restore the now-missing Completed (by date) perspective.

Thanks Ken - I will download the SP and give it a whirl.

OK, I downloaded sneaky peek 1.8 Revision: 136924.

I didn't see how to restore the Completed (by date) perspective.

I tried the Help > Add Welcome Template, but that didn't bring them back.

A few syncs later, and now the built in "Perspectives" button is completely gone from the iPad sidebar, while four of my custom perspectives perspectives, that I had previously starred, are still there.

Help bring the sanity back!

More testing:

I Reset the iPad database.
Selected the option to Sync my data.
No change - looked exactly the same:
- no Perspectives button in sidebar
- missing default Completed (by Date) perspective
- my four custom perspectives which I had previously starred were still there
-----

Next I tried another reset.
But this time, skipped the sync, and selected the use standalone option.

Results:
- Even that did not have the Perspectives button in the sidebar
- missing default Completed (by Date) perspective
- obviously with a fresh standalone database, my four custom perspectives would not be there
- the default Completed (by Date) perspective was missing
-----

So then I deleted OmniFoucs from my iPad.
Then I synced iPad to iTunes.
Then I added OmniFocus back to iPad.
Then I synced to iTunes again.

Then I launched OmniFocus iPad.
Set up my sync server address and authenticated.

Results:
- no Perspectives button in sidebar
- missing default Completed (by Date) perspective
- This time, my four custom perspectives which I had previously starred were gone
-----

Quit OmniFocus iPad.

Launched OmniFocus Mac.
Performed a sync.

Created a quick Contexts perspective to kickstart the process (even though my other perspectives were still in OmniFocus Mac).
Performed a sync.

Quit OmniFocus Mac.

Launched OmniFocus iPad.

Results:
- no Perspectives button in sidebar
- missing default Completed (by Date) perspective
- my four custom perspectives which I had previously starred were gone
-----

Performed a Sync.

Results:
Perspective button FINALLY appeared in sidebar, along with my custom perspectives.

BUT still not the default perspective Completed (by Date).

Here's the fix:

The "Completed" perspective in OmniFocus Mac 1.7 was based on Project View (which doesn't work with iPad).

After upgrading to OmniFocus Mac 1.8, select the "Completed" perspective in the Perspectives window.

Use the gear menu to "revert perspective to default settings".

Sync.

Launch OmniFocus iPad.

Sync.

Completed perspective for iPad restored!
