My question is when do you know what app to use ?

iCal is for my calendar. Meetings, appointments, due-dates.

OmniPlan would be for organizing and tracking strategic projects, objectives and milestones. OmniPlan will show you what dependancies you have.

OmniFocus is for actionable items and projects.
