why do parallel projects appear as an action in context view
 

Why do my parallel projects appear as actions with no context in the context view?

They typically contain actions from many different contexts and it's annoying for me to see the projects themselves requiring a context to be assigned.

Anyway to hide this other than convert them to single action lists?

It's not parallel projects per se, but any project or action group that will exhibit this behavior (except Single Action Lists, as you've noticed). The parent is treated as an available action when all of the children are complete.

If you don't like this, you can turn it off by unchecking the "In Context Mode: [] Show Projects and Action Groups" item in the OmniFocus Data Preferences.
