Labelling lines

Hi,

i quite often have draw diagrams with automata and i always wonder if there is some proper way to handle the labelling of lines/transitions. When i simply use the text marker to add text to a line, the text is put directly on top of the line with white background. However, i want the text to be transparent and directly next to the line without the text and line interfering. I currently do it by resizing the box and adjusting the alignment, but this seems like a hack a breaks easily when i change something afterwards. So is there any proper way to put the line labeling next to the line with transparent background? Thanks for any answer!

You can inspect the label, and in the Geometry Inspector there are controls for the alignment of the label along with the position and offset. Likewise, you can adjust the fill of the label since it's treated like a regular shape in this regard.

Maybe my question was unclear. I know that i can adjust these things in the inspector, however, it seems there is no way around resizing the text box in order to make the actual text align to the left or the right of the line. However, try to resize the textbox with alignment settings to the left and right in order to put the text next to the line and then move it - it snaps again to the center of the line and thus destroying the alignment to the line that i have just done unless i have already resized the textbox in such a way that the text is left/right from the line when it is snapped to the center. Ideally, i would simply like to have a setting there like "align left/right of object" in order to avoid all that fiddling.

Aha, understood. Consider your comments added to the feature request we have to set line label preferences that we have in our tracking database.

Cheers,
