Can't unstick line

I've got an orthogonal line drawn on top and in the middle of a big filled rectangle. I want to delete the line without deleting the rectangle. This seems impossible. Here's what I've tried:

Connections inspector for both line and rectangle: uncheck all boxes. No good.
Drag endpoints of line away from rectangle - impossible. Rectangle just resizes and/or moves as I drag either line endpoint. So annoying.
Lock the rectangle - no good.

I understand the benefit of sticky lines, but it sure would be nice if I could just select the line and then "Disconnect All" from a context menu. And a HARD lock (no copy, no delete, etc) would also be nice.

Anyway, is there a way to do this or do I just have to delete both line and rectangle?

It sounds to me as though you have grouped the line with the rectangle as you should be able to select the line by clicking on it and press delete to remove it.

I forgot to mention that I had, in fact, tried ungrouping also. I just got an error beep when trying to ungroup, so I assume that means that they were not grouped. So it's still a mystery to me. I just gave up and deleted them both. I will post if it happens again.

Looks like the rectangle has become a label on the line. Move the rectangle off the line a ways. Then select the line and delete and see what happens.

This happens to me every once and a while, especially with "timeline diagrams"

You can turn this off on a line by deselecting "allow shapes to become labels" but I don't think that this will remove existing labels.
