connect rectangles side to side
 

I've spent the day trying to connect a series of rectangles to each other. So I want right edge of rectangle 1 perfectly aligned with left edge of rectangle 2. What is driving me crazy is that on some in the line of 10 in a row show the alignment characters, and some don't. So some can be lined up just right, and some cannot. And none snap to the other. And when I say align to grid OG actually changes the size of the object. Example attached (amazingly cannot upload graffle doc).

Any ideas?

Have you tried applying a zero horizontal offset spacing to the selection in the alignment inspector? That usually works for me.
