Defining new root level
Dear all,
is there a way to temporarily define a new root level at which I want to work? I have deep nested group tasks and would like to be able to shift temporarily a group task deep inside to the complete left so that I can concentrate on only that group task (which might be one sub-contractor). So for example in a schedule with a layout like this: Project * Task A ** Subtask 1 ** Subtask 2 * Task B ** Subtask 1 ** Subtask 2 *** Sub_SubTask a) **** Activity 1 **** Activity 2 **** Activity 3 *** Sub_SubTask b) I would like to temporarily shift the root level to Sub_SubTask a), so that I concentrate on the activities inside there. I tried to see if an existing filter would be possible to do that, but couldn't find a matching one. Anybody knows how to do this? Or would that be a feature request? ;) |
We can get you pretty close.
Under the View menu we have a "Focus" option. This will not technically changing the root of the tree, because it will, to use your example, keep the ancestors of the task you're focusing on in the tree for context: * Task B ** Subtask 2 *** Sub_SubTask a) **** Activity 1 **** Activity 2 **** Activity 3 Many people use a hierarchical naming scheme where tasks might recur in multiple phases of the project and the names don't mean much without the context of the parent tasks. So until we figure out some way that you can have that context present in all configurations of all views, we opted to keep the ancestors of the focused task in the tree, too. -Tom |

That's a great idea, you should put that in some of your other products ;-) |
