A Brief update on WebKit and the JavaScript Debugger.

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to update you all on our plans for updating to a newer revision of WebKit and for getting the JavaScript Debugger working once again.

First the JavaScript Debugger, in the next beta you'll probably notice that this wont be listed in the Window menu. Not to worry though! We plan on reimplementing it for the next release (which we're currently referring to as 5.5.1).

One of the reasons we're holding off is because we're looking at using Drosera (<http://webkit.opendarwin.org/blog/?p=61>), this would require us to update WebKit which we're also planning on doing in this same release.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting for both of these things to happen--We really want them to happen here too! We just want our non-beta users to be able to stop using 5.1.3. :)

Drosera! Nice! Looking forward to it.

PS - After 5.5 is out, will there be SPs of 5.5.1?

We don't have an exact plan yet but we'll probably do a couple sneaky peeks before the betas. I expect the cycle to be much shorter than 5.5 though.

Any chance of adding Web Inspector to OmniWeb too?

It is already in there...

Web inspector is already there, you just have to use a hidden default to activate it, which I forget. If you have access to the sneaky peek forum, it was one of the earliest threads there. Initiated by John Hicks, IIRC.

Nevermind, searched for it myself and here is the thread

Copy paste the below into Terminal and press enter. Then an Inspect Element option will appear at the bottom of the contextual menu.
defaults write com.omnigroup.OmniWeb5 WebKitDeveloperExtras -bool true
You may need to quit OmniWeb and re-launch it too see the context menu entry.

Web Inspector wont be officially in OmniWeb until it's completed, until then you'll have to use this terminal command.
