Convert objects to a selected stencil?

Is there a way to select a group of objects and have them replaced by copies of a particular stencil?

I am trying to style a tree generated by outline mode. I made a diagram style using my stencil as the shape, but applying the diagram style doesn't appear to change the objects to the stencil.

After consulting with OmniGroup. I have determined this is not possible since the stencils I am most interested in using for substitution are Groups.
