Nag List

I've read user suggestions for having a "nag list" of actions you want to be reminded of starting on a given date, that you don't want to see before that date, and that are not due at a specific time. Since they're not time-bound, Due is not appropriate or you will find yourself overusing Due and resetting due dates frequently. They're also not simply Next Action or Available because those concepts don't imply any time suggestions for reminders or anything else, and those lists can get long.

Start Date seems like the best way to indicate when reminding should start, but you can't filter (in the current version, anyway) by whether actions have a start date. And if you sort Next Action or Available by start date, then you won't be sorting them by Duration, which is a key element of GTD.

I read where one user flagged each of the Nag items in addition to giving it a Nag start date, and then used a perspective to see only the flagged items. But this makes flagging useless for any other purpose, like indicating a very short "working on" list.

So my solution is this, in case you're looking for alternatives:

Use Start Date to indicate start of Nagging. Do not use Flag for Nagging... use it for "working on"
For the Nag list, create a perspective from Available, grouped by Start Date, and with the Grouping "Start Any Time" closed. You'll be left with four open groups of items having old start dates so you can see which Nag items you've been neglecting longest. And the non-Nag items will be hidden in the closed group.
I'm having trouble finding a feature request for a "items w/out start date" perspective, but it would definitely be handy.

If you email the support ninjas, they can attach you to the note I'm going to drop into the database. Or the other request which I just failed to find and they'll eventually merge mine with. :-)
