iPhone Applications

Just waiting for that first brave soul to put the OF web app on the iPhone.

The OF web interface looks better on my iphone than it does in my firefox:

I jailbroke my iphone and built a cross-compiler- I'm ready to port or
alpha test an iphone-native OF app at your leisure :)

SpiralOcean 2007-09-12 06:13 AM

Suweet! Bring it on. Port it out and send me a copy. I'll send you my email address through the forum.

Are you moving the data file over to the iPhone?

SpiralOcean 2007-09-12 06:57 AM

Hmm... maybe you weren't talking to me? But to the people of Omni?

How did you get those images of OF on the iPhone?

Is it a working application?
Or just photoshopped pictures?

Are you waiting for a port of OF for the iPhone from Omni?

tritip 2007-09-17 06:35 PM

To get the pics: I simply turned on the OF web interface on my macbook.
Then I went to that URL from iPhone's Safari.
Then I took the screen shot- the "trick" is that I have already "jailbroken"
my phone using "installer.app" (http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/)
I used that to install opensshd, ssh into my iphone, and have all sorts
of fun including someone wrote a screenshot taker:

Re: porting, I'm just saying it seems entirely feasible to port or
make a reduced functionality version.. it's mostly the same Frameworks
except for the UI click/push/scroll stuff, you can use Xcode to write
your iPhone apps, etc. If any OF developer were ever interested
in such a thing, I could help or point them to help with getting their
cross-compiler going, etc.

OF rocks!

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I would love to see OF on my iphone. The current web solution doesn't work for me for a variety of reasons. For me, OF and the ability to sync and crypt notes is the one missing issue.

Ahh... a kindred spirit.

I had some nice third party apps on my old palm that saved a lot of time and thought for me.

The internet thing will not work long term for iPhone.
• The internet connection is unreliable. I can't even get it in my apartment and I live in the center of a big city.
• It's less secure.
• I need quick and painless access to certain types of date that is reliable, and always on the iPhone.

Here are the applications I am hoping for that will be third party local on the iPhone.

• OmniFocus... duh.
• Password, software serial number manager.
(imperative when my computer crashes and I need to reinstall or for quick access to the hundreds of passwords, serial numbers I manage.)

• Sync-able Searchable Notepad.
(for the gobs of arcane data that I paid dearly for with time to figure out that I don't want to have to spend time searching for again.)

• Grocery list: complete with searchable items to add to my list, along with an aisle field that I can sort on so I make one pass through the grocery store. Also allows different grocery stores to store different information.

• Multiple timers (cooking, laundry, and whatnot.)

Those are the big ones that I need to have all the time.
In the palm it was:
LifeBalance, SplashID, Memo-Leaf, SplashShopper & mobileClock.

But the palm never synced well with the mac.
I'm extremely happy with the way my calendar and contacts stay synced!
So much time was spent fixing the data on the palm.

Not to mention the beautiful interface on the iPhone.
And allowing me to combine my cellphone with the iPod.
It's a beautiful thing.

Good Lord Spiral ... were we brothers in a past life?

You have pretty much nailed my iPhone wish list. I'm curious about the 1Password online vault they are talking about rolling out but frankly I would MUCH prefer 3rd party apps from people like Omni.

I'll stop beating the dead horse ... for now

Yes... fellow travelers.

I switched over to 1Passwd when my old Samsung Palm/Phone died.

I love 1Passwd, especially because it uses the Mac keychain! I've always wanted to use the keychain, but it was clumsy compared to SplashID.

I also need 1Passwd to be local on the iPhone.

There are so many times during the day when I need to access credit card information (I manage purchases for three departments with different credit card numbers) and a plethora of serial numbers, software keys ect.

I've been hamstrung without being able to carry my data with me.

But the Achilles tendon is still vital. ;-)

GPS on the iPhone

I saw this and just about wet myself in the sheer awe and excitement!

http://iphonefaq.org/archives/97278

GPS on the iPhone... right now!

The iPhone is going to change the world.
I mean, think about it... the entire thing is software!
Once Apple unlocks the SDK and allows third party apps on it...
anything is possible.

It's like getting a new phone with software releases instead of tied down to crap hardware.

I haven't jailbroke my phone yet... but this seems like a great reason to.
