Escape key?

Is it me, or is it OmniGroup?

Doesn't one expect the Enter key to open/close a text item for editing? Shouldn't the escape key cancel the editing? Or am I confused on how Macintosh users expect their software to work? Also, shouldn't the Enter key select the glowing default button on a modal dialog?

I'll report these as bugs at some time, but only if I don't get a chorus of people telling me that my expectations are screwy!

Sorry for the confusion here. It's not you; it's us.

In general, either the Enter or Return keys should select the default button in a sheet or dialog. (Escape should also be bound to the "Cancel" button.)

If you're not in a sheet or dialog, the Escape key should toggle you between the task-selection (where the whole row is selected and there's no edit cursor) and task-editing modes.

In the project or context views, the Return key is used to insert a new row.

The Enter key is intended to open/close the note field for an item - there are a couple of bugs that we still need to fix here. The key only opens the note pane if the row is in selection mode, and once you open the note pane, you can't hit enter again to close the note field.

Those bugs are likely contributing to your confusion. Again, apologies.
