simply can't record a shortcut for clippings

I've read thru all of the posts I could find on this topic and tried many things but no matter what I do I can't record a shortcut for clippings. I am on a 14 day trial to evaluate this product for our management team. Does the trial give you full access or is that the problem? Any hints greatly appreciated.
