Understanding task duration

I've rescheduled to 'now', and leveled all of the following tasks prior to noting their effort and duration. All are at 0% completion. None are split.

I have a task that I am assigned to 100%, .25h effort, and when I add another resource (person) to it 100%, the duration remains at .25h. If I create a new task (same resource allocations; and it appears in close proximity to the previous task), 0.224h. (Or 1 hour effort becomes 0.599h duration).

I realize a variety of factors as listed in the help can alter duration; I just wanted to make sure the numbers I've listed are potentially legitimate. Thanks.

Bob

This is an example of why I'm a big fan of sending documents to the support ninjas — unless you can make a very simple test case that shows the aberrant behavior, it's pretty tough to unambiguously show what is going on in a forum post. The obvious first thing to check would be that you don't have keep duration fixed selected on that task. Doesn't explain the whole thing in one neat package, but I wonder if you and the other resource have identical availability schedules — what does the resource utilization view show for that task?

Sorry for not getting back here sooner. I've never knowingly set "keep duration fixed". Unfortunately I've made mods to the project, and can't replicate. I'll keep an eye out on that. My availability is a super set (mostly) with the other person; we both are available Saturdays, which is when the task was scheduled, I'm pretty sure. Thank you for your help.
