Importing Vector Graphics

I'm having a little trouble with a vector graphic I'm importing. The image is the standard looking "RSS Feed" icon made up of three shapes— a circle and two quarter circle lines expanding from the circle.

The problem I have is when I copy/paste into Omnigraffle I see the shape just fine but when I try to change the color of the icon it changes the background color of the space where the three shapes reside leaving the icon the same color.

What I'm hoping to accomplish is changing only the shape colors and leaving the background transparent. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

OK, so you created an icon with a different application? Since those graphics are imported "as is" and only their visual representation (view) is displayed in OG, the best way would be to change the icon's color in the app you created it with. OG cannot change the graphics itself, if it was made by an external app.
Hint: If you do that more often, you could draw a rectangle in OG and import the graphics by reference, so modifications are easier.
