How does OF connect to iDisk ?
This is a general interest question not a problem.
I can't mount my iDisk at work due to firewall issues -- we have an authenticating proxy server and various ports are blocked. I find though that OF can sync fine (which is very handy!) I was wondering how it connects to iDisk and what is different about that versus what the Finder is trying to do ? Thanks - Michael |
It connects to your iDisk via https to secure the link and it is highly unlikely that https would be blocked by your workplace for what I hope are obvious reasons. Whether it does any other voodoo to access your iDisk I don't know.
Btw, you do know you can browse your iDisk using your browser don't you? It is a pain to use in comparison to a normal Finder view, but if all you need to do is upload or download a few files at a time, it is functional enough. |
Our connection to iDisk is WebDAV over secure https. It's just like WebDAV in the Advanced sync settings, except that in the case of MobileMe/iDisk, we know what server to talk to and we look up your account name from your MobileMe settings, so we don't have to ask you for those details.
(JKT mentioned the https bit, thanks, but I thought I would make the WebDAV bit explicit.) |
Thanks a lot. I didn't know about https bit -- I'll give it a try.
