Site preference syncing joy
After a period with quite a few crashes (and, yes, crash report sent back to Omni...) I switched back to using Safari for some time but I have just downloaded the latest 5.8 sneaky peak and discovered that the preference syncing in Leopard via MobileMe also syncs my site specific preferences.
This is fantastic as I have been after that functionality ever since I first tried OmniWeb. Now I can really lock down my browser (no third party cookies, no Javascript, no remote images), enable those features just for the sites where I need them and have those settings quickly shared across all 3 machines that I use. It also seems to sync my toolbar customisation which is another nice thing to see. So far everything seems to be working very well, but I will be interested to hear from the developers if there is anything I ought to be aware of, e.g. should I quit my browser before syncing preferences? etc. Big thanks to the Omni developers for storing the site specific preferences in the main preference plist. Hmm... maybe this is a reason to sync preferences. I just wish that wasn't an all-or-nothing sync. There's so very many prefs that are quite intentionally different on each Mac I use.

I agree. I hope eventually there is a preference pane with checkboxes on what you want to sync: site prefs, ow prefs, ad blocking list, and/or bookmarks. |
