Incorrect Sorting order?

I have three actions inside of a single-actions folder and none of the three actions have a due date. However, when I am in my Planning mode, if I group projects by DUE, the three single-action items show up under the group for "DUE WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK".

I find this inexplicable. When I am in my Context Mode, if I group actions by DUE, the three actions correctly appear under "No Due Date" but only in the Planning mode they somehow come under "due within the next week".

I further noticed that even if I actually put in a due date into one of the actions - say I put in June 2008, **even then** it stays under "Due within Next Week" in my Planning View.

Any ideas for why this would happen?

The only idea that I have is that your single-action list contains another action with a due date in the next week that is not currently visible. Are you showing Remaining actions, or have you restricted the view to Next or Available actions? If you are not showing Remaining actions, what happens when you do make them visible?

Hi,

That was a really nice reply! Actually, I did have items in my list had a due date of next week but that weren't currently available because they also had a start date of next week.

But while we've now figured out why the project is appearing in the DUE NEXT WEEK area, it still doesn't make sense that specific actions that are specifically NOT due next week are showing up under an area which is supposed to track what IS due next week...

Of course this is resolved when you view the same thing from the Contexts view instead of the Planning view, but it seems very counter-intuitive that OF would operate in this manner...

As a friend of mine used to say about a different program, "It's intuitive once you understand how it works." :-)

The basic rule of thumb is that sorting, grouping, etc. in Planning mode works at the level of projects and single-action lists. The idea is that, if you group by due date in planning mode, you want to know which projects have an upcoming due date--either the project due date itself, or an action within the project. Context mode, on the other hand, works at the level of actions.

Since I've been using OF for nine months, it's intuitive to me! :-)
