Why no priorities?

OK, I know there is a GTD answer to this but I just don't get it. Why are priorities not used? I find them extremely useful to raise things to the top that I want to focus on without having to manually reorder. Actually its just an easier way to reorder without having do decide that this priority 2 is more important then that priority 2. I love the way iGTD lets you assign priority by just hitting the number you want to assign to that item.

well I can see how flags can help but the increased granularity that being able to manualy order is exactly the level of control I don't want.

Another useful link would be http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?t=3836 which is the thread from which those posts were taken. There you will find an in depth (and rather long) discussion about the value (or lack of value in some of our opinions) of priorities in a GTD system.

My personal favorite post is http://forums.omnigroup.com/showpost.php?p=17502&postcount=27 but I'm clearly biased ;).

I hate to just link you to the thread without actually answering your question but we've already beaten this horse to death and it seems like we've generally agreed to disagree about the value of priorities and agreed that adding priority to OF is OK so long as some of us can turn it off and hide it completely and it doesn't delay the release.
