Order of Actions within a Context

Could anyone explain how actions are ordered within contexts on the iPAD app.

They appear to be quiet random but I assume there's a logic to it that I can't quiet work out.

Also I notice you can't move the actions within a context like you can within a project. Is there any reason for this.

(The same goes for actions within the flagged view).

Furthermore it seems to be the opposite within the drop down menu when assigning projects and actions of a new item. The contexts are listed as they are listed in the context view however, the projects are listed in a random order?

Any help appreciated.

Actions in the Context view on the iPad are ordered first by context, and then by the order in which the project appears in the project list.

This gives you a coarse-grained way to reorder the context list, as well.

You can't arbitrarily order the context-based lists because the database format doesn't currently support storing that information. It would be a rather pointless feature, in my opinion, if the sorting didn't persist after the app is closed, or sync to other OmniFocus clients. If you are convinced that you need the ability to arbitrarily sort your context-based lists, use the Contact Omni option under the gear menu to send in a feature request, and find a comfortable place to wait, because that train isn't scheduled to depart for some time :-)

I can see that now but it wasn't doing that earlier. It appears that ordering can get screwed up on occasion and only seems to be fixed when you kill the app ( by pressing the home button twice and deleting the OF process) and restart it.

I wanted the feature as a method of prioritising. Moving actions was suggested as a method by other OF users for those that want to prioritise actions. Its only available in the project view and as I tend to action in the context view it would be useful here and also allow prioritising across projects.

I would be the last person to argue that OmniFocus is bug-free, but I have not seen the behavior you report in years of heavy use.

I only use OF on the iPAD and now I'm aware of it I'll try and replicate it and track when and how it occurs.

Hopefully be able to pass the results to the guys at OF.

It may not be a bug it may be a feature ;-)

I've seen occasional mis-ordering in context-view, that is fixed by a kill and restart. I'm on iPhone+Mac, and had assumed it was something about incomplete updating of a view following sync, but maybe not? For me, it usually takes the form of newly added actions to an existing project/SAL showing up at the very bottom of the list in context view, rather than slotted in where actions from that project should usually be.
