OF slow with long lists?

I have the ipad 3, and when viewing a list of lets say 40+ items, then pressing the checkmark box, there seems to be a delay of atleast 3 secs. its these a know performance issue ? cause if i have a list of only 10 items and do the same process everything is smooth and fast.
