Upgrade to pro now, or wait for version 5 pro?

I am a happy omnigraffle 4 user, but have recently started using the 5 pro beta. I really like its ability to read and export visio files. So I am considering
an upgrade to 5 pro when it gets released.

In the forums I see a remark by Andrew from Omni:
------
Note that the price of OmniGraffle 5 is going to be higher than the current price of OmniGraffle 4. However, if you purchase now you will get a free upgrade to version 5 when it is released.

Am I correct in reading that I should upgrade to 4 Pro now, and will get an upgrade to 5 pro for free?

Yes thats how I read that as well, I recently bought ver 4 pro as well and wonder if I also would qualify for ver 5,.. from the quoted post it implies that buy 4 pro now at current price and get free upgrade to to 5 when it's released.

Anyone??? The money is burning a hole in my pocket.... :)

Joel 2007-12-20 07:03 AM

Correct. Purchase OmniGraffle 4 now and receive a free upgrade to version 5 when we start selling it.

oblomow 2007-12-20 12:18 PM

Thanks, ordered the upgrade and downloading right now.
Can't wait for the GA version 5 though. My colleagues finally want to talk
(and cooperate) with me. Great job :)

Is it possible even in purchase from act2?

I bought 2008/02/08 the set of OmniGraffle4Pro and OmniOutliner3Pro from act2.
The license has been registered to the Omni Co..
Can I do a free up-grade to OmniGraffle5Pro?

dougray 2008-02-27 06:32 PM

Upgrading now (if still possible; it's getting close) seems to be the way to go. However, I already own the Pro version, and I asked this a while back but no one responded. Let me try again:
With the free upgrade to 5Pro if I upgrade to 4Pro now, it seems like I would be better off if I only owned 4 (Not Pro), since I could actually upgrade it. However, since I already own 4Pro, it seems like I'm stuck, or can I upgrade to 4Pro again to get the best price on 5Pro? Thanks.
OK, so how do we go further?

OG5 is officially out! Hurray!
Where and how do I get my upgrade?

You can download the upgraded software now and start using it (under its built-in two-week trial license), and we'll email you your updated license code by Friday. (We're already sending them out, but there are a lot to send!)

OK, thanks. Can I kiss you? Or shall I better wait until friday? :)

I'm sure 5.0 is a great upgrade, but I have to admit that I'm disappointed by the cost. I just don't see myself upgrading to 5.0 from 4.0 pro.

Is it me, or is the upgrade really little more than UI tweaks and bezier additions? Seems to me like we're being asked to pay for the under-the-hood changes that they did that didn't really result in much feature enhancement.

Mind you, I just bought OO Pro and I am a huge fan of Omni normally, but this upgrade just baffles me.

Agreed

I agree. I would have at least like to seen a price difference for 3.0 and 4.0 users to upgrade.

I too, find the price to be a little stiff, but the fact is, OG5 is much better in many ways than OG4 and I need to read and write Visio and that might be worth the price alone.

denno 2008-03-05 08:34 PM

are the new license codes for recent purchasers of v4 being sent automatically?

Andrew 2008-03-06 10:33 AM

Yes, the upgrade licenses (for anyone who purchased Oct 31 or later) were sent Wednesday evening. (It took a while to generate all the upgrades and get them mailed.)

If you haven't received it by now, check your spam mailbox, any auto-mail-filing, etc. If you really never received it (and you qualify for a free upgrade), email sales@omnigroup.com and we'll get it straightened out.

Absolutely. For the first time in years I'm not upgrading.
I've also been a huge fan of OMNI since they started, but I'm staying with OmniGraffle Pro 4 and a sense of disappointment.

Upgrade Price too Steep

I own several Omni Group products and normally upgrade without hesitation. I think the OG Pro 4 to OG Pro 5 is too steep. It should have been priced lower, $54.95 seems plenty. I'll wait for OG 6, I can't afford this one.
