i'm tearing my hair out.

styles in OO4 seem completely counter-intuitive to me. i just can't get my head round them. i select a level in the styles sidebar and theres no indication of where that is in the main outline. i change a colour in the inspector, sometimes something happens, other times nothing.

i'm completely bewildered. am i just stupid? sorry to be so negative.
