Orthogonal lines misbehaving!

As an example: I have a big box (1) and a smaller box (2) on it's right. I'd like to draw an orthogonal line out the side of 1, turn the corner to head down, and in the top of box 2. I'd like to draw a second line out the side of 2, heading back into the side of 1. Seems simple, no?

Maybe I'm not using the magnets correctly, but even when I try to move them, sometimes the lines have small zigs in them (the magnets don't seem to snap to the grid); sometimes lines hop to a different magnet; sometimes the arrows (entering parallelograms only?) turn a funny direction at the last minute.

Should I be using MS Word for this task. Or can Graffle handle it adequately?

Thanks, Eliot

OmniGraffle is perfectly capable of handling this task. (For the love of God do not use Word!) I tried to reproduce your instructions and didn't have any problems with OG, (although I did have a little trouble understanding exactly what you were trying to draw). Anyway, I think the trick is to make sure that the line actually is configured as an orthogonal line -- you can do that in the Lines and Shapes inspector. Also if you are getting funny little loops and turns in your orthogonal lines, you've probably added too many points to the line. Try deleting one of them.
