mouseover previews for links

There's a pretty cool extension for Firefox that lets you see previews of links in a pop-up window when you mouse-over. Note that you can have it add a little icon next to links when you mouse-over them, so that it's easy to keep out of your way if you don't want them. It's an alternative to opening tabs for links that you want to check out. Something to consider.

CoolIris

I noticed that Cooliris now has a Safari version. It works a little differently in Safari, however (sites are limited). In any case, the plugin shows up under Preferences>Plugins in Omniweb but does not work. Is there any possibility that this may work in the future?

Like tabbed browsing, won't this one day be standard for all browsers?

May I ask why? Since I haven't used this feature at all, I'm curious. Perhaps my tabbed browsing analogy is off. But previews seem like a feature that can enhance the browsing experience.

Imagine you're surfing a page which links to 1,000 50MB photos... either each time you moused over a link it would start loading the file, or it would load them when you loaded the page.

:)

Sorry Forrest, but I can't imagine surfing a page with 1,000 50mb photos. There is a good degree of control over CoolIris in FF as well; the page only opens if you mouse over the right hand side of a link and click on a blue box that appears. So it's not as if your browser is on a bad acid trip flashing open windows all over your screen. Well, another bad analogy to keep the thread going.

Gotcha, didn't know an extra step was required.

Although I don't use this feature much (OW is my default browser), it does have quite an appeal. I mean, with Snapback and page marking, navigation has gotten much easier, to be sure. But this allows a quick, sneaky peek (if I may use that term here) of another page without having to mark the page, open it in a new tab, or hitting the back button/key. Rather innovative.

PS I failed to mention that this feature can be toggled on/off rather easily by selecting the CoolIris icon at the bottom of the browser window.
