Yeah, well, if you do it Mail.app it just hides your columns. You can scroll horizontally to see them, but there's no indication that they're actually there.

Resizing the columns in Omnifocus makes the entire WINDOW resize horizontally.

Other applications don't behave this way, and I much prefer their behavior.
