the good news - ONYX did the rebuild in a few seconds (I figured it would be at least an hour).
The bad news - your fix did not fix my problem.

this did work at one time, and is working fine on my macbook pro. It's just the desktop mac that won't work. Both intel, both snow leopard.

why can't I change font colors?

I'm trying to improve the somewhat drab interface by playing with the styles. For action items, I can change the background but not the text color. I think I've tried everything, but apparently not...
