I've been playing with this more and it appears to be a function of "Layout Diagram" as I can repeat this behavior simply selecting that option from the context menu. Is there any way to turn this...

forced repositioning

I've been using automatic layout a lot lately and ran into an issue where if I'm zoomed into my diagram (say at the bottom right of a 11x17 sheet) and I delete an object, it will reposition the focus...
