Unless I am missing something, you can showed deferred items. From the Forecast view, pull down to show the Sync, View, and Search bar. Tap the eyeball (view) and select Deferred Items.

A single action list is just a type of project....

A single action list is just a type of project. Once you can drag it to the sidebar, select the new project and then open the inspector window and you can turn it to a single action list there.
