We're not sure if it's gmail itself or the browsers that it goes through which are stripping out those links, but it's something we've observed in a couple different web mail systems, including Apple's.

The downside of the GET request method would be that it would leave a copy all the actions sent through the service in our server logs. We suspect that would be a problem for some customers.

Javascript or some other approach along those lines may be feasible, but the majority of customers seem to be okay with using Mail on their devices, so it's not a top priority at the moment...
