Perhaps the window title could be changed to reflect that the user is working with search results, in the same way that the name of a focussed window is changed. If the window title said Results for search "foobar" I think it would be just enough of a clue.

Clearly it is also a problem that search strings persist through recycling the app, including rebuilding the database.
