The iPhone app store isn't opening up until July 17. Right now, you can't add 3rd party apps to your iPhone without hacking it, but that will change with the upcoming update to iPhone 2.0. If you just have an iPod touch and not an iPhone, you'll have to pay for that update.
The app should come out close to the release date, so around July 17.
