I am new to project planning and OmniPlan, and hope people smarter than me can give me some pointers on duration/effort.

There are three dependent tasks in the attached dummy project:
1. Prepare ingrident that takes 2 hours with resource including chef and a kitchen bench
2. Cook dishes with slow cooker for 30h (for example)
3. Serve Dinner that takes 2 hours with resource including chef and dining table

I am hoping to vary the hours for Step 2 to accommodate different dishes, so I know when I should book the kitchen bench required for Step 1 and Dining Table requried for Step 3.

My trouble is that when I entered 30h Step 2, OmniPlan converted it to 3d 6h that is 8h per working day. However, I couldn't make sense that if I set the slow cooker required for Step 2 to have normal working hours 24/7 has to be bounded by 8 hours per working day.

I think I am confused about differences between duration and effort..... am I?
