You can get to these and edit them with an external editor either by Ctrl-clicking on the .oo3 file and choosing "Show package contents", or by selecting the .oo3 file in Quicksilver and tapping a right arrow key to show its contents.
Rob,

Thanks for the quick response. Actually, when I right-click on the image in my outline, I can edit the file, and, judging by the name that pops up in the image editor, I'm actually editing the file in whatever directory "Show package contents" would give me. However, when I save the file and exit my image editor, the image my outline file doesn't update.

This would be a really great feature for me if I could get it working, since being able to rescale an image quickly, or add a short annotation to it, would be a big deal. However, if I have to quit OO, open up the package contents, edit the file, etc., it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

Any suggestions?
