Is it possible to configure the text within the notes area of a given level?

Don't know if I've expressed myself quite right there. What I would like to be able to do, is to number or bullet the text within a given 'note' area, to be able to set tabs or whatever so as to achieve hanging indents and such like. This would greatly assist with 'readability'.
