Might be worth exploring custom user data - tagging groups with key value pairs of your own choice.

If you tagged a group as Type=Combo you could then write code which at least got its position and size and used these details in generating a combo box in your web source code. (Applescript can look for groups/shapes which have particular Key=Value combinations).
