You can easily do this with flags and perspectives.

If you flag anything that you think is important, then you can use Due and flagged to get important & urgent items. Just Flagged will give you all important items (If you group by due dates, then you can look at things that are due beyond today). If you use unflagged and group by due date, then you can look at . . .

I think you get the idea. Perspectives will remember to expansion status; so, you can hide all the items you are not interested in seeing.
