I think you and Chris may be comparing different things - he mentioned the spinning wheel, which means that he's timing both database load and the time it takes to sync his data with the server. My guess is that you're only referring to the load of the data on the phone.
Chris, if you disable auto sync in settings, quit OmniFocus, and then restart the app, how long does it take for the app to launch?
